Market Link, one of the region’s leading full-service marketing consultancies, has a new addition to its team. Claire Godwin has returned to her roots and taken on a busy media buying position with the Worcester-based agency – reviving a role she first performed as a graduate 15 years ago.
Claire, who left Bournemouth University with an honours degree in advertising, media and marketing, says: “When I graduated I worked for five years for a Worcester firm specialising in buying media space, but left when I had children. I then started at Market Link as a part-time receptionist and enjoyed myself so much that I stayed in the role for 10 years! When the opportunity arose to take on a media buying role I jumped at the opportunity – it was perfect timing for me to rekindle my career.
“There’s no doubt the media’s changed in the last decade – many newspaper and magazine titles have come and gone and there’s a lot of web-based advertising activity now. I’m enjoying the challenge of getting back up to speed and it’s great to work in a full-service agency where I can see the ads right through to publication. It’s incredibly busy here and I’m on a steep learning curve, but I’ve got a strong background in the industry and it helps that I’ve been working in the company, albeit in a different role, because I’ve kept my ear tuned in to all the jargon!”
Claire’s role involves negotiating, buying and monitoring media space (principally in newspapers, magazines and radio, as well as on-line and for poster sites) for clients. The team devises media strategies to enable the agency’s customers to reach the highest proportion of their target audience at the lowest possible cost.
“It’s great news for Market Link that Claire’s agreed to take on this job,” says Stuart Murray, Market Link director. “The media buying team has got busier and busier in recent months, so they needed some help – and fast. On the whole we’ve found that more challenging market conditions have given our clients a nudge to consider new marketing approaches and that’s resulted in a surge in our workload. Claire comes complete with a top-notch CV and she knows the company inside out so has settled into the position incredibly quickly. We wish her a long and happy reunion with media buying!”
